Reforestation takes time. Though our trees grow fast, it still takes a few years before our new forests become productive.
However, it is crucial to us that the restored land becomes valuable for our partner villages right from the beginning.
Luckily, the grass we sow next to our trees, grows like weed. As Hommes et Terre Senegal is active in an area with many breeders, more grass means more food for local livestock.
At the same time, we have to make sure that our young trees are protected from overgrazing.

This is why we decided to mow all of our sites. Bushfires are much less likely; the dried grass collected can feed livestock during the dry season; and its sale generates income for our partner villages! Which is then reinvested in the further protection of their sites…
